President Zardari, PM Shehbaz express grief and sorrow over the demise of ex-Secretary Finance Dr. Waqar Masood

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have expressed grief and sorrow over demise of former Secretary Finance and economic expert Dr. Waqar Masood Khan.

In their condolence messages, they prayed for the departed soul and commiserated with bereaved family.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his statement prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul in Jannah and expressed condolence with the bereaved family.

The prime minister, who is also in London, said that late Waqar Masood's contributions to the government of Pakistan would be always remembered.

Former Advisor to PM on Finance, former minister of state for finance and revenue and former federal finance secretary Dr. Waqqr Masood Khan passed away in Islamabad on Saturday.

Waqar Masood Khan was a retired Pakistani civil servant who served as an Advisor to caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on Finance. He also served as a Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Revenue and Finance in the capacity of a Minister of State in Cabinet, in office from October 2020 till August 2021. Before his retirement from civil services, Dr. Waqar Masood Khan served in BPS-22 grade as Pakistan's longest running Secretary of Finance.

Dr. Waqar Masood Khan held several positions across the Federal Government including Special Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretary Finance Division, Secretary Economic Affairs Division, Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources and Secretary Textile Industry. He taught macroeconomics at the graduate level at Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE).

Dr. Waqar Masood Khan also served as a board member of State Bank of Pakistan, Islamic Development Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Pak-Oman Investment Company. More recently, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of SadaPay, a fintech company in the private sector that is operating under the Electronic Money Institution regulatory framework by the State Bank of Pakistan.

Dr. Waqar Masood Khan was the paternal uncle of former Pakistan cricket team captain Shan Masood. He had also learnt the Holy Quran by heart from prominent Jamia Masjid Alhuda, Jinnah Super, Islamabad.
