Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have paid rich tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi on his death anniversary.

In his message on his tenth death anniversary, President Asif Ali Zardari eulogized Abdul Sattar Edhi as the ultimate embodiment of service, compassion and humanity whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

In a message on the tenth death anniversary of great philanthropist, the President said through the Edhi Foundation, he established a comprehensive network of social care, including the world's largest volunteer ambulance service, providing a lifeline to people during times of crisis.

The president said Abdul Sattar Edhi was not only a towering humanitarian but also an enduring symbol of national pride.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that driven by a sincere commitment to public welfare, Abdul Sattar Edhi highlighted the social dimensions of addressing society's challenges. He said his invaluable contributions constitute an extraordinary chapter in Pakistan's social history.

The Prime Minister said personalities like Abdul Sattar Edhi serve as an inspiration for the younger generation. He said Abdul Sattar Edhi demonstrated that every individual can play a constructive role in bringing about positive social change. He said his social services will always be remembered.

Meanwhile the 10th death anniversary of the great humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi was observed on Wednesday. Abdul Sattar Edhi was born on February 28, 1928, in Gujarat, British India. He started welfare services in 1951.

Edhi established the world's largest volunteer ambulance network along with shelters for homeless people and animals and orphanages across the country.

Many international and national awards, including Asian Noble, the Lenin Peace Prize and Nishan-e-Imtiaz were bestowed upon him in recognition of his services for humanity. He breathed his last on this day in 2016 at the age of 88 in Karachi.
