Sargodha: An anti-terrorism court in Sargodha on Tuesday sentenced Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bachar, MNA Mohammad Ahmed Chattha and several other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers to 10 years each in prison in vandalism case related to May 9 riots. The court has handed sentences to total 72 accused including 32 nominated and others unknown.No accused including Malik Ahmed Khan Bachar was present in the court at the time of pronouncement of the verdict.All party workers, including Member of the National Assembly Ahmad Chattha, were also handed 10-year prison sentences.In the Mianwali riots and vandalism case, the court had previously granted exemption from appearance to all 32 nominated accused individuals, including Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar.The case was registered in Musakhel police station in Mianwali over vandalism and riots related to the protests triggered by the arrest of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan in a corruption case on May 9, 2023.
