Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) while announcing important decision regarding employees of Punjab Emergency Service Rescue-1122 has maintained employees of RESCUE-12 don't fall in the definition of civil servants.

Justice Ayesha Malik has issued written order whereby the SC has nullified the order of Punjab Civil Service Tribunal and approved government appeal pleas.

According to decision the status of employees of Punjab Emergency Service is of Public servants. Punjab service tribunal has no jurisdiction powers in the matters of RESCUE-1122 employees. The employees don't become civil servants on their own merely due to the department becoming government department.

According to SC the employees of RESCUE-1122 are regulated under separate legal framework and rules-2007.

Punjab Emergency service is working as independent legal department even after 2021 amendment.

It is pertinent to mention here RESCUE driver Muhammad Khalil had challenged the departmental action against him in Punjab Service Tribunal.

Service Tribunal had ordered for holding regular inquiry afresh.

Punjab government was of view employees of RESCUE-1122 are public servants under specific legal structure.
