Lahore: Punjab government has announced compensation of Rs 20 lac to the family of each deceased child and Rs 500,000 to each injured person in Kahna tuition centre tragedy.

The compensation package was approved on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after the deadly incident that claimed the lives of 14 children and left others injured.

Punjab Chief Minister's Adviser Zeeshan Malik said the families of the deceased children would receive Rs2 million each, while those injured in the incident would be provided Rs500,000 each in financial assistance.

The tragedy took place in Lahore's Kahna area, where a tuition centre was being run inside a house. According to reports, children were studying below while soil was being poured above the roof to lay tiles.

The weak TR-girder roof could not bear the weight and collapsed on the children.

As per media reports, the children were buried in local grave yard after offering their funeral prayers.

The markets and shops remained closed in Kahna due to this tragedy.

Strict security arrangements were made on the eve of funeral prayers.

The treatment of injured lady teacher and children is underway in General Hospital, Children hospital and Tehsil Headquarters hospital.

The police have extended scope of investigation into the incident.

Injured owners of the house, husband of lady teacher Rehan, his brother Faizan and laborer Ameer have been taken into police custody and the matter is being investigated from different aspects.
