Lahore: Punjab government has decided to convert 2400 villages into state of the art model villages under Model Village Project (MVP) with the aim of changing the destiny of rural areas of the province.

Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz has approved this important project.

Local bodies minister Zeeshan Rafiq has been assigned with the monitoring and practical implementation of this project.

According to sources Punjab government will provide funds to convert 800 villages of Punjab including Lahore into model villages while financial assistance will be acquired from world bank for the remaining 1600 villages.

Funds will be allocated in the next financial year 2025-26 budget for this project.

As per sources the amenities including construction of streets as per international standard, cleanliness, state of the art sanitation system , water supply lines, supply of clean drinking water and others basic facilities will be provided in model villages.

Government sources said the project will be completed in phases. Converting more than 60 percent villages of Punjab into modern villages is target of Punjab government.

This project will not only help upgrade the standard of living in rural areas but also will play a vital role in local economy, health and cleanliness and development of infrastructure.
