Islamabad: Shutter down strike was observed in all over Punjab like other parts of country on the appeal of JI Amir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman against inflation, petroleum levy and hike in prices of petroleum products.
Major trade centers and markets remained closed while business community and people from all walks of life suspended their businesses and activities in support of strike.
JI Punjab Amir Dr Tariq Saleem and secretary general Iqbal Khan thanked business community , chambers and office bearers of traders unions over successful strike.
Dr Tariq Salim visited several districts in the province.
Talking to media men he said the entire nation while responding to call of Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman appeal has proved they reject the anti people and anti poor policies of government.
Petroleum levy, unprecedented price hike and day to day growing financial burden has made the life of common man miserable.
Today's shutter down strike is clear and unequivocal message from people to government that they are not prepared to shoulder burden of more inflation and tyrannical taxes.
He said government has changed process of fixation of prices of petroleum products from weekly to daily basis. It means government has decided to loot the people.
Question is this as to why the allied government does not abolish petroleum levy of Rs 120 per liter instead of increasing the prices of petroleum products on daily basis. Levy has no concern with the real price of petrol.
He said on one side government is talking for holding dialogue and on the other hand it is arresting JI peaceful workers. This dual policy will not work.
We warn government if the relief is not provided to people and just demands of JI are not accepted then this movement will go ahead further and it can change soon into " Gerao hakoomat" movement.
Ruling elite is not ready to withdraw from its privileges, larger vehicles, protocol and unprecedented expenses on one hand while poor citizen is burdened by inflation, unemployment and increasing utility bills.
The people have expressed no confidence on government economic policies through peaceful strike, he said.
