Resolution for imposing ban on social media accounts of children below 16 adopted in PA

Lahore: The resolution for imposing ban on social media accounts of children below 16 years has been adopted in Punjab Assembly (PA).

The resolution was presented by ruling party Member of Punjab Assembly (MPA) Sara Ahmad.

It was said in the context of the resolution safeguarding physical, mental, psychological and moral growth of children is constitutional and moral responsibility of state.

It was said in the context unbridled use of social media are subjecting the children to cyber bullying, online sexual exploitation , inappropriate material, mental stress and other grave risks.

Punjab Assembly has recommended to federal government to impose effective legal restriction on the social media accounts of the children below 16 years.

It has been said in the resolution that several countries including Australia, France, China and different states of US have introduced laws and age restrictions regarding social media accounts of under age children.

It has been recommended to Pakistan Tele -Communication Authority (PTA ) to introduce system at all social media platforms regarding verification of age.
