Karachi: Dr Tauseef Ahmed Khan, Convener of the Committee of Retired Teachers and Employees at the Federal Urdu University, has stated that Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari, despite the unequivocal directives of the Federal Ombudsman, failed to place the long-standing issue of retired staffís dues before the Senate agenda. This conduct, he emphasised, not only constitutes contempt of court but has also provoked grave anxiety and indignation among the teaching fraternity.According to the details, retired teachers had lodged a formal complaint before the Federal Ombudsman, pointing out that although the University holds substantial sums in its pension funds, the disbursement of retirement dues and monthly pensions continues to be delayed. In its reply to the court, the University admitted that no less than Rs 670 million were secured in pension and General Provident funds, invested across various schemes.The Ombudsmanís court, in its ruling, had directed that the matter be placed before the Senate and that approximately Rs 270 million in outstanding dues be disbursed without delay. However, the Vice Chancellor not only procrastinated on implementing the decision but also excluded the matter from the forthcoming Senate agenda.Retired teachers and employees have now appealed to the Federal Minister for Education, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, to take immediate notice of this grave dereliction. They demand that the Vice Chancellor be instructed to comply with the Ombudsmanís decision and ensure that the issue is duly included in the Senateís agenda, so that the rightful dues of retired teachers and employees are delivered without further injustice.
