RIYADH:The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile over the Medina region in western Saudi Arabia on Thursday amid an escalation in missile and drone attacks on the kingdom.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki announced the interception but did not identify who launched the missile or disclose its intended target.
No casualties or damage were immediately reported following the interception.
The incident came hours after the coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed a drone over Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.
A day earlier, the coalition said it had destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Yemen's Houthi movement towards Riyadh.
Saudi authorities have also accused the Houthis of carrying out a drone attack on the Taibah electricity distribution station in Medina on September 29.
That attack damaged a transformer but did not disrupt the wider electricity grid.
The latest interception comes amid an increase in Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi airports, energy facilities and other infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen's internationally recognised government against the Houthis since 2015.
