Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) Shariat Appellate bench heard the case with reference to evidence of the women.

The court issued notice to federation and provinces and sought reply.

A five members bench presided over by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail took up the case for hearing.

Justice Irfan Saadat said details are there in Surah Al-Baqrah with reference to evidence of women. The evidence of the women are accepted in what matters has been clearly narrated therein.

The counsel for the petitioner told the court the petitioner who are women have passed away. However it is essential to continue the case so that the matter could be decided.

During the hearing of the case the court summoned finance secretary Supreme Court Bar Saira Rajput and called women journalists on rostrum as well.

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail said the matter relates to principles of evidence of women.

Justice Shahid Wahid directed the respondents that they will have to appear on next hearing.

The court while issuing notice to all respondents of the case sought comprehensive reply so that a detailed decision could be given on the matter of evidence of women.
