Islamabad: Mr. Hafeezullah Sheikh, Special Secretary of the Senate of Pakistan, addressed the ASGP/IPU session in Geneva, highlighting Pakistan's remarkable progress in transforming its Parliament into a modern, resilient, and citizen-centric institution.
He noted with pride that Pakistan's Parliament is the first in the world to operate entirely on solar energy-an unprecedented milestone demonstrating the country's strong commitment to environmental sustainability and clean governance.
Mr. Sheikh further informed that under the visionary leadership of the Hon'ble Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani-former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founding President of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference-the Senate has embarked on developing an AI-powered chatbot. This innovative digital initiative will enable Members of Parliament and staff to instantly access legislative records, committee reports, and debates, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness in the lawmaking process.
It was also highlighted that Mr. Hafeezullah Sheikh had the unique honour of addressing this prestigious global forum for the second time, making him the first Pakistani officer to do so. He had earlier addressed the ASGP/IPU session in 2024, and to date, only two Pakistanis have been invited to speak at this distinguished platform.
Mr. Sheikh emphasized that these forward-looking initiatives reflect the Senate's firm resolve to embrace technology, strengthen institutional transparency, and set new global benchmarks in parliamentary innovation and public service.
