Islamabad: Senator Khalil Tahir, a member of Pakistan's Upper House of Parliament, held important meetings with senior officials at the U.S. State Department during his recent visit to Washington, D.C. The discussions focused on bilateral relations, mutual cooperation, regional security, and the promotion of people-to-people ties.
On this occasion, Senator Khalil Tahir, accompanied by Atlantic Council Fellow Shahid Rehmat, shared his efforts and experiences related to promoting peace, stability, and social inclusion in Pakistan. During the meetings, concerns were raised regarding regional instability caused by Indian aggression and water disputes, highlighting the risks such issues pose to peace and harmony in South Asia.
In meetings with U.S. officials, Senator Khalil Tahir presented several proposals to further strengthen Pakistan-U.S. diplomatic, economic, social, and people-to-people ties. Commending the recent progress in bilateral relations, he emphasized the ongoing growth in cooperation across various sectors, calling for its further expansion.
Senator Khalil Tahir informed the U.S. officials that Pakistan is playing an active role in promoting peace, stability, and development in the region. He expressed Pakistan's desire to enhance its partnership with the U.S. in areas such as trade, education, health, energy, and counter-terrorism. He reiterated Pakistan's commitment to human rights, minority protection, and the rule of law, highlighting the significant reforms and practical measures being implemented. He also briefed the U.S. side on Pakistan's role in promoting interfaith harmony, peace, and social cohesion.
U.S. State Department officials stated that the United States values its bilateral relationship with Pakistan and is keen to further enhance cooperation in various fields. They also appreciated Pakistan's efforts in regional security, counter-terrorism, economic stability, and social development.
Senator Khalil Tahir also emphasized the need for continued high-level visits and parliamentary exchanges between the two countries.
