Islamabad: Shifa International Hospital Islamabad has been placed under a high security alert amid reports that the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) may be shifted to the hospital following a medical examination at Adiala Jail, sources said.

According to sources, the Executive Floor E-4 of Shifa International Hospital has been declared a sub-jail, while a designated ward/apartment has been vacated and taken into police security.

The surrounding area has also reportedly been cleared as part of the enhanced security arrangements.

Sources said restrictions have been imposed on the use of mobile phones by hospital staff within the designated security zone.

Gate One of Shifa Hospital has reportedly been designated for the possible arrival of the PTI founder, while strict security has been deployed at other entrances and police checkpoints have been established. Roads leading towards the hospital are being closed and parking areas are also reportedly being cleared.

A heavy contingent of police has been deployed inside and around the hospital, while senior police officers are supervising the security arrangements. According to sources, security jammers have also been activated at the hospital, while heads of various departments and senior doctors are present at the facility.

Meanwhile, a medical board comprising, among others, Dr. Uzma and Dr. Faisal Sultan examined the PTI founder at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, and subsequently left the facility. Sources said that in light of the recommendations of the medical board, the PTI founder may be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for further medical care.

Security arrangements at the hospital remain in place and the situation is being closely monitored, sources added.
