Islamabad: The Supreme Judicial Council deferred the matter relating to the letter written by six judges while deciding to file 23 complaints against judges of the superior judiciary after reviewing them during its meeting held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The meeting was chaired by Yahya Afridi and attended by Aminuddin Khan, Muneeb Akhtar, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Aalia Neelum, and Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar.

According to the official communiqu©, the first agenda item of the meeting concerned the Council's own institutional accountability and self-assessment mechanisms. The Council reviewed multiple complaints filed against judges of the superior judiciary and decided to dispose of 23 matters in accordance with Article 209 of the Constitution.

In a notable step toward institutional transparency and accountability, the Council decided that matters relating to some of its own members would first be taken up in line with relevant constitutional provisions.

A reconstituted session of the Council was subsequently held under the chairmanship of Justice Aminuddin Khan. The meeting was attended by Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Shahid Waheed, and S M Atiq Shah as alternate members.

The communiqu© stated that the Council considered 23 matters under Article 209 of the Constitution of Pakistan and completed proceedings according to the agenda.
