Islamabad: The Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan met on Thursday at the Conference Room of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Justice Yahya Afridi, Chief Justice of Pakistan/Chairperson, Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Chief Justice, Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan; Justice Munib Akhtar, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan; Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan; Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Judge, Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan; Justice Ms. Aalia Neelum, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court; and Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, Chief Justice, Islamabad High Court.
In a notable demonstration of institutional accountability and transparency, the Council decided to first take up matters concerning some of its own members. Accordingly, meetings were held with varying compositions in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions.
The meeting of the reconstituted Council was chaired by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Chief Justice, Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, and attended by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan; Justice Shahid Waheed, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan; and Justice S.M. Attique Shah, Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court, as substituted members.
The Council considered twenty-three (23) matters in accordance with Article 209 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and disposed of the business at the agenda.
