Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed for hearing on September 8 the petitions filed by Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha for suspension of their sentence. IHC Registrar office has issued cause list for fixing case.

Justice Azam Khan will hear the petitions by Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha for suspension of their sentence. Trial court had awarded punishment to Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha in controversial tweet case. The petitions for suspension of conviction were filed on January 24.

Sessions Court Islamabad had awarded sentence of 17 years each and fine Rs 3. 60 crore to Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha on January 24 under Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act for spreading material against state institutions and promoting narrative of proscribed organizations.

Both of them were arrested on January 23 and still they are imprisoned in Adiala jail.

On the petitions of suspension of sentence by Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha , Supreme Court had sought details of progress in the cases from the counsels of the petitioners so far.

A 2-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Naeem Afghan heard the petitions by Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha regarding suspension of their sentence.

The court ordered Faisal Siddiqui counsels for the petitioners to inform it the current situation of the case and court's proceedings held so far during the hearing of their petitions by Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha for suspension of their conviction.

On the other hand Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) has expressed grave concern over deteriorating health condition of Imaan Mazari and her detention situation and has demanded of the courts to decide soon the petitions seeking suspension of the sentences.

IBA has also demanded of jail authorities to provide them necessary medical facilities.
