Karachi: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Monem Zafar Khan, strongly condemned the incompetence and poor performance of the Sindh government and the police department.Monem Zafar Khan expressed these views while commenting on the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, the rising menace of extortion-particularly the large-scale targeting of the business community-and the recent press conference by ABAD leaders.He said that the "system" has pushed Karachi to the brink of destruction. Due to the apathy, criminal negligence, worst governance, and complete failure to protect the public by the Pakistan Peoples Party's provincial government, the situation has become so grave that even the business community of the country's largest city and economic hub has been forced to hold press conferences and protests.He added that citizens and public circles have repeatedly drawn the government's attention to issues of law and order, extortion, theft, armed robberies, and the free rein given to criminal elemen ts in the city, but the ears of those in power remain deaf.ABAD leaders, he said, have once again exposed the organized extortion network with concrete evidence and proofs, clearly and unequivocally identifying the extortionists. They stated that extortion from their members has been ongoing for several months, that government officials are involved in land grabbing, and that complaints have already been filed with the government and relevant authorities, yet no action has been taken so far.ABAD has warned that if this serious situation of extortion is not brought to an end and the business community is not provided protection, they will not only stage protests and sit-ins but will also shut down their businesses. Meanwhile, the business community has already begun shifting its capital out of the city.Monem Zafar Khan said that Jamaat-e-Islami will not remain silent in this dire situation. 'We stand with Karachi's trader community,' he said, adding that the situation has deteriorated to such an extent t hat if the government and senior officials fail to take notice, not only Karachi but the entire country and the national economy could face severe and irreparable damage.Karachi runs the entire country, pays the highest taxes, and contributes 95 percent of Sindh's budget, yet it is a great tragedy that despite giving so much, the city is deprived of its legitimate and legal rights.He further stated that the PPP-led Sindh government and the police department have left not only the people of Karachi but also the business community at the mercy of extortionists, thieves, and armed robbers.On one hand, extortion, law and order deterioration, and rampant robberies continue in the city; on the other, the public remains deprived of basic facilities and plagued by countless problems. 'This,' he said, 'is the result of the PPP's worst performance over the past 17 years.'
