Lahore: An important meeting on tree plantation was held in the committee room under the chairmanship of Senior Member Board of Revenue Nabeel Javed. Officers of Forest Department, Agriculture Department, Local Government, Education Department, Irrigation Department, Communications and 24 other departments attended the meeting. Representatives of University of Punjab Government College University and other educational institutions also attended the meeting. All the concerned departments gave a detailed briefing on tree plantation in the meeting. SMBR Nabeel Javed issued instructions to the departments to bring final plans in the next meeting. Senior Member Board of Revenue Nabeel Javed said that the approval of the comprehensive tree plantation plan will be sought from the Chief Minister Punjab this month. As per the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the project will be completed in 3 phases. Tree plantation will be done on short-term, mid-term and long-term basis. Instructions were also issued to the Irrigation Department to plant trees along the canals and protect them. SMBR further said that more important than planting trees is their protection. Prevention of tree theft and cutting will be ensured. Trees can be planted on a large scale in schools, colleges and universities. Trees will also be planted along motorways, highways and other roads. Landowners will also be given instructions on planting trees. Disasters like climate change and smog can be controlled through tree planting. Full support will also be provided to non-governmental organizations, civil society and environment-friendly organizations. A comprehensive awareness campaign will also be launched at the public level about the importance of trees. Citizens will be informed about the importance of trees through print, electronic and social media.
