Trial of civilians in military courts

Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) constitutional bench will continue hearing of case regarding trial of civilians in military courts Wednesday.

Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan remarked nothing is mentioned in international principles that civilians cannot be court martialled.

He gave these remarks during hearing of intra court appeal against decision regarding trial of civilians in military courts.

A seven members bench of SC constitutional bench presided over by Justice Amin ud Din Khan took up the case for hearing Tuesday.

Suleman Akram Raja said court martial of civilians is against international norms of transparent trial.

It is international requirement that trial should take place in open court.

Suleman Akram Raja took the plea in UK court martial is conducted by independent judges and not military in UK.
