Karachi: The Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town has fulfilled another important promise as Monem Zafar Khan inaugurated two parks on the same day.In Union Council (UC) 6, a beautiful park has been constructed on the site of a former garbage dumpsite, while in UC 4, Block 6, a park that had been reclaimed from the land mafia has been restored and reopened for residents.Jamaat-e-islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan formally inaugurated both parks in a single day under the supervision of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town. In UC 6, Metroville III, Hazrat Talha bin Ubaidullah (RA) Park was inaugurated. In the past, the location had turned into a garbage dumping site, but through the efforts of the town administration, it has been completely restored and transformed into a lush green park.Similarly, in UC 4, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 6, Hazrat Abdul Rahman bin Auf (RA) Park was reclaimed from the land mafia, reconstructed, and reopened to the public.Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Monem Zafar said that the promise made to th e residents had now been fulfilled. While the parks have been restored, their protection and maintenance are also a shared responsibility of the local community. He further stated that development activities in Karachi had remained stagnant for a long time, but now progress has resumed across the city's nine towns. Through community cooperation, available resources are being spent with honesty and transparency for public welfare. He noted that during the past two and a half years, 234 parks have been restored across the nine towns governed by Jamaat-e-Islami. Several parks now feature open-air gyms, and recently floodlights have been installed in Incholi.Monem Zafar also announced that development projects will continue to expand in 2026. He said that the replacement of 40-year-old gas pipelines has begun by the Sui Gas authorities, which may cause temporary inconvenience but will ultimately improve the situation. He added that Hyderi Market has been rebuilt as a model market, while centers are being esta blished for young people where they can participate in educational and extracurricular activities. He pointed out that over the past two and a half years, no additional funds were provided for development work, and most of the funds received under the OZT head are spent on employees' salaries. Despite this, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town has faced a deficit of nearly Rs70 million, yet the available resources are still being utilized for public welfare.Speaking on the occasion, Town Chairman Dr. Fawad Ahmed said that initially people had little hope that the project would be completed, but the town administration made it possible. He noted that in the past the area would turn into a swamp during rains and had become a garbage dump, but today it has been transformed into a beautiful and functional park.Talking about the development in the town, he said nearly 20,000 street lights have been made operational, 21 parks have been restored, and carpeting of more than 42 roads has been completed. Work is also underway to resolve long-standing sewerage issues and to improve roads around the University of Karachi. He also announced that youth centers will be established at the Union Council level, with two already set up. Traffic volunteers have also been deployed to help improve traffic flow.Residents speaking at the ceremony said that the park had remained in ruins for nearly 29 years, but has now been transformed into a beautiful and active space - a valuable gift especially for children and women.
