Islamabad: Federal minister Ahsan Iqbal while reacting to appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi as Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) has said we have brought chief justice in Supreme Court (SC) , the one who was needed." Less controversial chief justice was needed in SC at present. Such CJP was needed who is team builder, There are decisions of justice Mansoor Ali Shah and practice of SC. Appointment of chief justice of high court is made out of panel of 3 judges, he said this here Wednesday.He went on to say appointment of chief justice is seen on the basis of seniority cum fitness. Appointments in SC were made on fitness during the last 20 years. Chief justice of high courts were appointed out of panel of 3 earlier. This principle is being applied to the appointment of judges of SC. This principle is adopted in connection with appointment of chief justice of high court. Then what is wrong in implementing this principle in the appointment of chief justice of SC.He underscored there can be polarization in the politics due to multiparty system. There can bo no polarization in judiciary because it is institution of justice.Polarization of extreme level was seen supreme court since some period.Senior judges can have what objection over appointment of junior judge as chief justice of Pakistan. Congress accords approval to the appointment of judges in US. The power for appointment of judges of SC rest with parliamentarians in India. Members of parliament can make attachment of judges in India as well.
