Baku: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar has urged the D-8 member countries to counter misinformation and fake news through a unified media policy.
Attaullah Tarar made these remarks while meeting with Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The two leaders discussed mutual cooperation among D-8 countries, particularly in the media sector, and other important global issues. The meeting also explored avenues for promoting cultural ties among D-8 countries.
The Minister said it is necessary to establish an effective fact-checking system on social media platforms through a strategic approach.
He emphasized that without full control over fake news, the joint narrative of D-8 countries cannot be strong.
The Minister said the people of D-8 countries can be brought closer together through the integration of culture, communication and technology.
Praising the Secretary-General's efforts, the Information Minister acknowledged his contributions to global economic growth and regional peace.
Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam stressed the importance of learning from each other's media experiences and conducting joint trainings and workshops.
He said to establish a strong and positive narrative globally, cooperation on the D-8 platform must be further strengthened.
