Chairman NAB refuses to appear in PAC meeting

Islamabad: Chairman National Accountability Bureau Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal did not appear in the meeting of Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday and the meeting was adjourned.

Javed Iqbal earlier promised to attend the meeting and later refused and sent DG NAB. The committee members refused to take the briefing and decided to write a letter to summon the Chairman NAB in the next meeting.

Committee members strongly protested against the behavior of the chairman NAB and said that he is using the name of the Prime Minister not to attend the meeting.

Media was also prevented from the coverage. However when the NAB chairman did not come, the members of the committee told the media that the attitude of Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal is very regrettable and if he ignores the parliament this way it will not be tolerated.

PAC met under its chairman Rana Tanveer Hussain Thursday. . The members of the committee expressed resentment over the non-participation of chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal while the meeting was called at the request of NAB chairman.

A letter was presented in the meeting wherein it was said that DG NAB will represent Chairman NAB in future with the approval of Prime Minister.

Sherry Rehman said that a letter has been received from the NAB saying that the principal accounting officer has been changed. This meeting has been convened at the desire of chairman NAB.

PAC members rejected the letter of chairman NAB.

Noor Alam said had the Prime Minister given approval then a letter would have been written by cabinet division in this regard.

The Chairman PAC said that the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is different and that of the Chairman NAB is different. The position of the Chief NAB is completely different and accountable. He will have to give an account of what he has spent in his tenure.
