Court has no powers to give decision for changing political system in the country: SC

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has remarked that the court is not empowered to give decision on change of political system in the country.

The SC has issued written order on the petitions seeking court’s orders for holding referendum in connection with enforcement of presidential system in the country.

The order was written by the Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial.

It has been maintained in the decision question of political nature was raised in the petitions pertaining to presidential system. No guidelines are available in the law and constitution on the question of political nature. Court is not in a position to give decision on political question for want of constitutional guidance.

The decision further said SC has no powers to give decision about change of political system. The objections raised by registrar SC office on petitions are correct.

The court remarked the petitions seeking court’s orders for holding referendum on enforcement of presidential system in the country are non maintainable.
