ISLAMABAD: Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has challenged appointment of junior judges in Supreme Court (SC).

LHCBA has taken the plea in its petition filed in Supreme Court (SC) that Justice Munib Akhtar was inducted in SC during tenure of former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar. Former CJP Asif Khosa appointed Justice Qazi Amin while induction of justice Amin ud Din Khan and Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi in SC was also not as per seniority norms.

The petition said that the appointment of judges is matter of prestige of judiciary and trust of people. The judiciary as an institution is being affected due to induction of the junior judges.

The SC has been prayed to direct the Judicial commission to formulate rules along with stake holders and implement seniority norms till the formulation of rules.
