NA body apprised of Pak-Afghan border fencing

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly’s Standing Committee for defence was briefed Monday on issues pertaining to Pak-Afghan border fencing and security situation in nearby areas of border crossing.

According to details, committee’s meeting was held Monday under the chair of Amjad Ali Khan. Secretary Defence Hilalurehman explained issues raised earlier by committee members regarding the border management.

Secretary Defence told committee members that Pakistan was in contact with the Taliban setup. He apprised that matters related to border fencing and security remain under discussion with the Taliban setup.

The committee approved Defence Ministry’s developmental budget worth 26 billion rupees.

Secretary told committee members that border fencing on western borders was done as per Pakistan’s aspirations and security interests. He said that fencing will be removed once region’s security situation gets stable. He said that fencing did not denote the international border but ‘Durand Line’ was the international border.
