Political parties alleged of foreign funding in past as well: Asad

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar said Tuesday that allegations of prohibited foreign funding have been leveled against political parties in the past.

Talking to media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) along with state minister Farukh Habib, Asad Umar said that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had accused former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif of taking funds from Osama bin Laden.

Federal Minister Asad Umar said that historic work was being done in the Election Commission. He said that a scrutiny committee was working on PPP and PML-N’s alleged foreign funding and demanded reports of both opposition parties to be publicized.

He said that the history of Pakistan could be changed if the financial accounts of political parties were probed in a transparent and impartial manner.

He said that the PTI has provided its funding details to the ECP in a transparent manner. We are cooperating with the Election Commission and will continue to do so, the minister added.
