‘Services sold to prisoners for money’ IHC told

Islamabad: Director General (DG) Human Rights has submitted a report before the Islamabad High Court on the plight of Punjab jails and abuse of prisoners, which revealed that services were being ‘sold’ to captives for minting money.

According to the report, jail officials accepted that they have a political pressure from elite class.

It has also been revealed that influential prisoners were kept in Adiala under pressure from Jhelum and Mianwali jails under the pressure of Home Department.

According to the report, a prisoner of Bhakkar Jail has provided evidences of money transfer to the jail administration. According to the alleged evidence, prisoner’s brother had transferred 14000 rupees to jail administration through a money transfer app.

Report revealed that prison administration was not even familiar with basic human rights. The prison meeting registers also indicate discrimination against the captives. Report of ‘everything okay’ is shown to the higher authorities. Authorities forcibly treated the prisoners in the jail and fined them financially, the report reveals.

The report submitted by DG Human Rights strictly suggested training on human rights for the jail authorities.
