Islamabad: With the onset of winter, the political temperature in the federal capital has begun to rise as government allies and supporters of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment have initiated consultations with political parties. Independent Senator Faisal Vawda met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to seek his support for the amendment; however, the Maulana stated that his party would give its opinion only after reviewing the draft.

According to sources, the meeting between Senator Faisal Vawda and Maulana Fazlur Rehman took place at the JUI chief's residence and lasted for about 40 minutes. Both leaders discussed the overall political situation in the country as well as the proposed 27th Amendment.

Sources said Senator Vawda gave a detailed briefing to the JUI chief regarding the amendment, emphasizing Maulana's longstanding role in strengthening democracy and parliamentary affairs. Vawda expressed hope that Maulana would continue to play a constructive and influential role on this occasion as well.

According to sources, Maulana Fazlur Rehman remarked that so far, the JUI-F has only learned about the 27th Amendment through media reports and social media discussions. He stated that as a strong political and parliamentary force, JUI-F considers itself a guardian of the Constitution, adding that the draft of the amendment must be presented first before any formal opinion can be given.

Maulana further said that once the draft is available, the JUI-F parliamentary party, legal team, and central council will review it thoroughly. He stressed that instead of acting hastily, all aspects of the proposed changes should be carefully examined to understand their implications.

Welcoming Senator Vawda, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that while he appreciates the outreach, constitutional amendments carry certain principles and procedures. He added that the party would present its official stance after due consultation and internal deliberations.
