Islamabad: The Acting Chairman Senate, Syedaal Khan, met today with the Managing Director of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) and the Senior General Manager at the Parliament House to discuss the current gas demand, supply situation, and ongoing challenges across the country, with particular focus on Balochistan.
Expressing serious concern, Syedaal Khan highlighted that during the winter season, people in various regions, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, face acute gas shortages and low pressure. He noted that in several areas of Balochistan, particularly Quetta and surrounding localities, conditions become critical during severe cold spells, with some instances of gas pipeline bursts reported.
The Acting Chairman Senate emphasized that the government is making every effort to provide relief, including reductions in petroleum product prices and directives to ensure uninterrupted gas supply during winter. He stressed that relevant institutions must implement these directives effectively to extend maximum relief to the public.
Syedaal Khan further stated that Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has issued clear instructions to ensure uninterrupted gas supply and practical measures to address the issue. However, he regretted that ground realities remain contrary, with residents either not receiving gas at all or experiencing very low pressure, affecting their ability to cook or protect themselves from harsh winter conditions.
The Acting Chairman directed the SSGCL Managing Director to submit a comprehensive and practical plan to improve gas supply as soon as possible. He also informed that he will personally visit Quetta later this month to assess gas supply, connection status, and public complaints, aiming to identify the root causes of the issues.
Reiterating the government's commitment, Syedaal Khan stated that public development, prosperity, and welfare remain central to the government's agenda. He affirmed that public representatives must listen to citizens' problems and take practical steps for sustainable solutions, ensuring maximum relief and lasting resolution of basic issues.
