Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, chaired the first Post 14th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) CPEC review meeting in Islamabad to comprehensively assess progress on projects under CPEC Phase-II.

The Federal Minister directed relevant ministries to prepare new projects under CPEC Phase-II and accelerate the provision of facilities in Special Economic Zones (SEZs). He emphasized that priority should be given to initiatives with lasting and positive impacts on public life.

Professor Ahsan Iqbal said the 14th JCC meeting marked a new chapter in Pakistan-China relations, adding that the 15th JCC will be held in Pakistan to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

He stated that CPEC's second phase has been formally launched, focusing on agriculture, industry, people-to-people cooperation, and information technology. He added that Phase-II will strengthen the private sector's role and promote youth skill development.

The Minister noted that CPEC Phase-II would lay a stronger foundation for Pakistan-China relations, creating employment, investment, and technology transfer opportunities while driving sustainable growth in exports.

Professor Ahsan Iqbal highlighted that Pakistan's 'Five Es' framework is being aligned with China's 'Five Corridors' to ensure continuity in development. He said strong bilateral relations guarantee economic recovery and long-term stability.

He further shared that the desalination plant in Gwadar, established with China's cooperation, has improved the water supply situation significantly. He reaffirmed that Phase-II would be implemented with the same consistency and dedication as Phase-I.

Under the Livelihood Corridor, the Chinese model will be adopted for developing Pakistan's underdeveloped regions. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has also been signed with the Development Research Center (DRC) to enhance exports and strengthen policy formulation.
