Karachi: In protest against the Pakistan People Party government in Sindh over its poor performance, incompetence, mismanagement, corruption in all public institutions, deteriorating conditions of Karachi, destruction of infrastructure, and its failure to empower local bodies, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi is taking out the Karachi Rights March today (Sunday).The march will be taken out from the Karachi Press Club to the Sindh Chief Minister House. JI Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan will be leading the march. It was decided that JI workers from across the city will come to the KPC in rallies from all districts of the city.All the arrangements in connection with the march have already been finalized. Besides publicity camps and floats, thousands of handbills were distributed across Karachi, urging citizens to join the march for their due rights.Earlier, JI Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan himself visited several publicity camps on important intersections of the mega city and interacted with Karachiites, inviting them to join the march.In his appeal, Munim Zafar Khan urged Karachi's citizens-including youth, students, teachers, scholars, doctors, engineers, lawyers, workers, and businessmen-to come out in full force to claim their rights and join the march.He emphasized that public resistance and struggle was the only way forward for Karachiites. He said that the march is aimed at compelling the rulers to address the problems facing Karachi. He reminded Karachiites that the mega city was the backbone of the country's economy, contributing 95 percent for the provincial budget.Last year, Karachi paid billions in taxes, yet the city's residents remain deprived of basic facilities such as healthcare, sanitation, transportation, and clean drinking water, he said while holding the PPP government responsible for all woes of Karachiites.He said that the PPP had been ruling Sindh for 17 years and has corrupted Karachi's institutions and resources. He also criticized the MQM for its role in the past 40 years of political partnership that led to the destruction of Karachi.Furthermore, he expressed concern over the PPP's continued control of the local government institutions in Karachi, with no intention to decentralize power or resources to the grassroots level.The situation worsened after recent rains, with the city's infrastructure in disarray, roads damaged, and sewerage systems overflowing, he said. He also highlighted the crises, surrounding transport, water, and other utilities. He said that the public was deceived under the guise of a new canal from the Hub Dam.No government or ruling party seems concerned with Karachi's problems, which are being exploited solely for financial gain, he said, adding that only the JI stands with the people, being the true representative of Karachi's residents. The JI demands immediate resolution of Karachi's critical issues, including provision of basic facilities and share in resources, he said.
