Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) has acquitted Abdul Rehman alias Bhola and Zubair alias Chirya accused in Baldia town tragedy by giving them benefit of doubt. The SC has nullified the decision of Sindh High Court and trial court on awarding death sentence to the accused.

A 3-member bench of SHC presided over by Justice Shahzad Malik approved appeal pleas of the accused. Farogh Nasim advocate appeared on behalf of the accused.

The court wrapped up appeal filed by MQM for expunging the remarks on becoming ineffective. When decision has been nullified then the remarks stand abolished automatically.

Detailed decision will be issued later.

The court dismissed the pleas for making family members of victims respondents. Justice Shahzad Malik said if some persons are made respondents then more two hundreds applications will come.

Simdh High Court (SHC) said MQ M had its control over Karachi, therefore, the witnesses remained silent. There is confessional statement of Zubair Chirya and not of Abdul Rehman Bhola. If extortion money was sought for MQM then why the acquittal of Farooq Sattar and others was not challenged. What crime it is if the sector incharge of any political party is changed.

Farogh Nasim said Altaf Hussain was expelled from MQM after his August 22, 2016 speech. Altaf Hussain was present there in 2016 when burden was shifted to MQM by acquitting the owners.

Justice Shahzad Malik said if I claim to be president of US then I will have to give its proof. If I say I am president of Pakistan then Zardari Sahb will get angry. Altaf Hussain delivered speeches prior to this incident too.

Justice Shakil Ahmad said no one said about Zubair Chirya that he was worker of MQM.
