Bangladesh: first phase of elections, BNP won 213 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami won 76 seats

Dhaka: In the first phase of the elections in Bangladesh, the BNP won 213 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami won 76 seats, and independent and other candidates won 9 seats.

In the second phase of the elections, voting will be held for the reserved seats for women. For this purpose, both major parties will submit the names of their candidates to the Election Commission in order of priority within this week.

According to the results received so far, it is expected that Jamaat-e-Islami will obtain approximately 12 reserved seats, while the BNP is likely to secure 36 reserved seats. Elections for reserved seats are held on the basis of proportional representation.

In this way, the total strength of the parties will be as follows: BNP - 249 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami - 88 seats and Independents - 9 seats.
