Some quarters are playing a game of cat and mouse over the announcement of the results: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Dhaka: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has alleged that although the party's candidates are leading in several constituencies, the returning officers are withholding the announcement of results without declaring them officially.

Addressing a press conference held at the party's central office in Moghbazar, he said that in some constituencies a 'cat and mouse game' is being played over the announcement of results, which reflects an unhealthy political attitude. Congratulating the nation on the high voter turnout, the Ameer stated that in elections some win and some lose - this is the beauty of democracy. He added that past traditions must now change, and that Jamaat-e-Islami seeks to promote a positive style of politics.

He further said that the party will give its formal reaction after the official announcement of results. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed hope that the Election Commission would announce the final results by the 13th. However, he made it clear that regardless of the outcome, Jamaat-e-Islami remains committed to continuing positive and welfare-oriented politics in the future.
