Islamabad: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has filed an additional petition in the Supreme Court seeking early hearing of his appeal against the Peshawar High Court's decision.
According to the petition, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule for by-elections on vacant seats of the Senate and National Assembly. Polling for Shibli Faraz's vacant Senate seat is scheduled for October 30, while polling for Umar Ayub's National Assembly seat will be held on November 23.
The plea states that the Peshawar High Court had adjourned the petition against the ECP's disqualification order indefinitely, creating a risk that the case may become ineffective if not heard promptly.
Barrister Gohar has requested that the appeal against the Peshawar High Court's verdict be fixed for hearing during the judicial week commencing on October 13, to ensure that the requirements of justice are met.
