Islamabad: NAB has challenged Lahore High Court (LHC) decision against Maryam Nawaz in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case in Federal Constitutional Court (FCC).

NAB has taken plea making Maryam Nawaz and others respondents `that LHC interfered in chairman NAB powers in matter of terminating inquiry against Maryam Nawaz.

LHC Feb 04, 2026 decision be declared null and void.

According to NAB Chaudhry Sugar Mills case is of personal nature.

It was further said in the plea no loss was caused to national exchequer in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case . No evidence of corruption or corrupt practice came to open against Maryam Nawaz during the investigation.

LHC misinterpreted section 31 , B (1) NAB amendment.

Chairman has full legal powers to abolish any proceedings before filing reference.

LHC violated law by linking abolition of inquiry to approval of Accountability Court (AC) .

The court tried to change the law by adding words from Itself. The condition of court's approval is tantamount to change the law enacted by parliament. Had parliament wanted court's approval then it would have written it in clear terms.

Maryam Nawaz was charged with money laundering and suspicious transaction in Chaudhry sugar mills inquiry.

NAB abolished the case after investigation declaring it of personal nature.

Maryam Nawaz resorted to LHC for return of Rs 7 crore deposited against surety following the abolition of case.

LHC gave decision the report of abolition of inquiry by NAB be presented in the AC .

The AC will give final approval and decide the matter of return of money within one month.
