Islamabad: KP Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi has sent his counsel on being summoned by Election Commission (EC) in person.
According to media reports, counsel Ali Bokhari appeared before EC on the matter related to alleged threats by KP CM to the government employees.
Advocate General KP also appeared before a 4-member bench of EC under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The counsel Ali Bokhari told the bench DRO has issued notice at the simultaneous time. Notices have been issued from two places at same time.
Member EC KP remarked who has not appeared here , how he will have appeared there.
Ali Bokhari said saying this is injustice. I am representing CM KP as per law. Chief Sahb tell your member how the remarks have to be given.
Ali Bokhari raised objections over remarks of member of KP commission .
He said that will I be given justice when you have said this.
The counsel said KP CM is engaged in a meeting.
CEC said we have summoned CM KP in person.
The counsel told CM has filed exemption plea . He is in a meeting. I have not met him so far. I have talked to him by telephone.
CEC inquired if he is in KP.
The counsel replied yes there was a meeting and he is in the meeting.
Secretary ECP told the details of proceedings against the CM KP that wife of Omar Ayub is candidate from NA-18 Haripur. No public office holder can participate in election campaign under code of conduct. Inciting to violence or threatening is also prohibited.
The CM KP addressed a public meeting in Chamba Havelian which is located on border of electoral constituency. CM threatened the election staff. Candidate from the constituency Shehr Naz is equally responsible.
Counsel Ali Bokhari took the plea can this notice be made against Sohail Afridi. Do they not know CM KP has addressed public meeting in Abbottabad and not in Hari pur. Chief Minister (CM) Punjab has given hospital of Rs 3 billion in the khasra close to Haripur. Is it not a contradiction.
CEC said it is fact CM KP addressed in Havelian. We will issue order of today's hearing.
Later EC gave exemption to CM KP from attendance today.
CEC said we have issued notice to federal minister too on violating the code of conduct. Notice to federal minister has been issued in more stern language than you.
The EC adjourned the hearing for indefinite period.
