CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif Meets DG GGGI at COP-30, Strengthens Punjab’s Climate Collaboration

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, met Sang-Hyup Kim, Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), during the COP-30 Conference in Belem, Brazil, marking a significant step toward collaboration on climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and green economic growth in Punjab.

During the meeting, DG Kim highlighted GGGI's commitment to assist Punjab in accessing international carbon finance opportunities and developing provincial-level carbon credit programs. He commended Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her visionary leadership in addressing historic flood challenges, executing large-scale rescue and relief operations, and advocating for climate justice on the global stage. He described her COP-30 address as 'a strong reflection of Punjab's firm commitment to environmental improvement and sustainable development.'

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif thanked GGGI for its support, noting that the organization's expertise and collaboration are vital for advancing Punjab's environmental vision. She highlighted provincial initiatives such as 'Suthra Punjab', smog mitigation projects, e-mobility programs, and the Plant for Pakistan campaign, emphasizing the goal to transform these into green financing projects with international carbon credit mechanisms.

Key potential areas of cooperation include water and sanitation programs, clean mobility, climate adaptation, and pollution control. CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed that Punjab aims to become a model of sustainable, climate-smart development with GGGI's assistance.

The meeting was attended by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Ministers Rana Sikandar Hayat and Zeeshan Rafiq, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Chairman PandD Naeem Rauf, and DG EPA Imran Hamid.
