Karachi: Accountability Court (AC) has acquitted Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Murad Ali Shah in Nooriabad power project reference.Judge Nasir Javed of AC Islamabad took up for hearing Nooriabad power project reference against CM Sindh and others Tuesday.Barrister Qasim Nawaz Abbasi counsel for the accused appeared in the court.The AC while accepting plea of chairman NAB for withdrawing the reference acquitted CM Sindh from the reference.The court also acquitted other all accused persons who were nominated in the reference.It is pertinent to mention here that CM Sindh is charged with misusing powers and awarding contracts of projects without feasibility studies which caused financial loss to the tune of Rs 8 billion to national kitty.This reference is part of fake accounts case wherein CM Sindh was charged with releasing funds for Nooriabad power plant by exercising his influence and violating rules and regulations. .It was also alleged that CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah concealed the facts from Sindh c abinet and misguided it for allegedly benefitting Omni group of companies owned by Anwar Majid close friend of President Asif Ali ZardariHe is alleged to have issued loan of Rs 3 billion to these companies.As per reference Nooriabad power plant project was worked out allegedly to whiten the black money of Omni group. Murad Ali Shah was then advisor for finance and energy to the then CM Sindh. 16 persons other than Murad Ali Shah and Anwar Majid are nominated in the reference.
