Islamabad: Complaint has been filed in Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against Chief Justice (CJ) Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Aalia Neelum.
The petition has been filed by former president Multan High Court Bar Syed Riaz ul Hassan Gillani in SJC praying for removal of CJ LHC from her office and initiation of legal proceedings against her.
The allegations of maladministration, constitutional violations and causing loss to national kitty have been leveled in the petition.
According to petitioner three benches of LHC including Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur and Multan are shut since July 27, 2026 due to non availability of judges.
This is first time in the history of LHC that three benches have been shut simultaneously since establishment of the benches in 1981. Closure of benches is gross violation of constitution.
It was said in the complaint that CJ LHC transferred about 2000 government vehicles to session and civil judges only at the rate of Rs 250000 per vehicle. These vehicles valuing billion of rupees were sold out at worthless price. This caused heavy loss to the national exchequer.
Chief justice has no power to transfer state property like personal property.
As per complaint Rs 200 are being received from every applicant as bio metric fee under January 7, 2026 notification. Out of this amount Rs 60 are being given to respective bar association and Rs 20 to employees of high court and district judiciary in the name of financial assistance.
The petition said imposing any fee or tax is mandate of government or parliament under constitution. December 3, 2024 circular has also been challenged in the complaint.
The petitioner has requested the SJC to initiate legal proceedings against CJ LHC Justice Aalia Neelum besides removing her from the office.
