Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has fixed the date for hearing the petitions against closure of social media platform X (former twitter).

A 3-member full bench of LHC presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) Aalia Neelum will hear the case on April 8.

The other members of bench are Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa.

It is pertinent to mention here LHC has already sought detailed reply from chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on this matter. In the light of the reply the legal and constitutional aspects of closure of X will be reviewed.

The petitioners include Hafiz Shakir Mehmood and other citizens.

The petitioners have taken plea closure of X is not only a restriction on freedom of expression but also its negative effects are falling on business, media and educational activities.

The petitioners through petitions requested the court to order PTA for immediate restoration of platform besides declaring any such restriction illegal which is against the basic rights of the citizens.
