Defamation case: Court orders Meesha Shafi to pay Rs 50 lac in damage to Ali Zafar

Lahore: District court has imposed fine to the tune of Rs 50 lac on Meesha Shafi in defamation case filed by renowned singer Ali Zafar against her.9 judges were changed in 8 years and statements of 20 witnesses were recorded in 283 hearing.Additional Sessions judge of Lahore Asif Hayat announced the decision of the case.The court while rejecting the allegations filed by Meesha Shafi against Ali Zafar has imposed fine of Rs 50 lac on Meesha Shafi.Earlier Umar Tariq Gill, counsel of Ali Zafar while giving arguments said Meesha Shafi leveled allegations of sexual harassment and undermined the repute. Not a single witness is there to prove the allegation of sexual harassment. Therefore, court should order Meesha Shafi to pay damage Rs one billion in damage to Ali Zafar.Saqib Jeelani counsel for Meesha Shafi said in his final arguments Ali Zafar harassed Meesha Shafi sexually and later Meesha Shafi refused to work with Ali Zafar.Saqib Jeelani said there is no witness of sexual harassment and it is a t rauma only through which the victim lady passes.As per decisions of superior judiciary, the evidence of victim lady can be accepted in sexual harassment case.Counsel for Meesha Shafi requested the court to reject Ali Zafar damage claim with fine.The court had reserved judgment after the arguments of the lawyers, statements of the witnesses and cross questioning.Ali Zafar presented 13 witnesses in his support while Meesha Shafi presented 7 witnesses in her support.Ali Zafar had filed defamation suit against Meesha Shafi in 2018.
