Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party has strongly denounced an Indian court ruling that sentenced three Kashmiri women including Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment.Calling it a politically motivated decision, the DFP Spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement issued on Wednesday, said that the judgment was political in nature and intended to suppress legitimate political voices that have refused to follow Indian diktats.He maintained that the ruling amounts to a serious breach of international law as well as core principles of justice.He noted that the life sentences handed down to Asiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen, and Fahmeeda Sofi reveal a fundamentally compromised judicial system of India that ignores globally accepted human rights standards, including the right to a fair trial, due process, and safeguards against arbitrary detention.He said that depriving the accused of the right to present a proper defense has rendered the entire legal process deeply flawed and unjust.He added that their only 'crime" was their participation in a political movement, which is a fundamental right protected under international human rights norms.He urged international human rights bodies to take immediate notice of the situation and hold India accountable for using its judiciary as a tool to suppress legitimate political voices in Kashmir.
