Digitization of economy will help boost transparency: PM

Islamabad: Weekly review meeting on the steps with reference to cashless and digital economy was held under Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif here Monday.

PM said digitization of economy will lead to promote transparency.

He directed all provincial governments, Gilgit-Balstistan and AJK governments to extend full cooperation to federal government.

He said the government is encouraging digital payments and digital transfer of funds through policy measures.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the progress regarding the digitization of the economy. It was briefed that the National Digital Commission and Pakistan Digital Authority have been established and necessary rules have been made in this regard.

It was informed that the process of appointing the chairperson and members of the Pakistan Digital Authority is in the final stages.

Merchant on boarding framework has been issued on July 25, 2025.

Meeting was attended by finance minister Muhammad Aurangzeb , federal minister for economic affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, minister for Information technology Shizza Fatima, state minister for finance and railway Bilal Azhar Kiyani, chief secretaries of all the four provinces , Gilgit-Baltistan , AJK, Chief commissioner of Islamabad capital territory and senior officers.
