Islamabad: It has been disclosed that disqualification reference against 26 suspended Punjab Assembly (PA) members of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has not been filed.
Speaker PA made consultation with lawyers and Election Commission (EC) authorities on this matter. Speaker was given opinion that speaker cannot file reference by taking suo motu notice under constitution and assembly rules.
According to parliamentary sources filing disqualification reference against 26 suspended MPAs of SIC has dropped scene. In fact no reference has been filed against them in writing.
Speaker PA has too not filed reference in EC.
EC sources said no disqualification reference has formally been filed against these 26 suspended members of assembly.
Malik Ahmad Khan made consultation with senior lawyers and EC authorities for filing reference.

Parliamentary sources proposed solid complaint and reason is must for disqualifying any member of assembly under article 62 or 63.
A constitutional official of a big institute advised that speaker has no powers to send reference under suo motu notice.
Sources said the reference for disqualification of any member comes to speaker with solid complaints. Speaker sends it to EC after its scrutiny.
EC has to decide about reference within three months.
