Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet met today at the Finance Division under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The meeting was attended by key federal ministers, including Sardar Awais Ahmad Leghari (Power), Ali Pervaiz Malik (Petroleum, virtually), Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh (Investment), and Haroon Akhtar Khan (Special Assistant to the PM on Industries and Production), along with federal secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries and regulatory bodies.
At the outset, the Committee offered Fateha for the departed soul of Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, former Federal Minister for Finance and former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. Chair Senator Aurangzeb paid tribute to her distinguished service, noting that many key institutional and tax policy reforms implemented later were conceptualized during her tenure. The Committee extended heartfelt condolences to her family and colleagues.
On the agenda, the ECC approved a Technical Supplementary Grant for awarding reward money to the Pakistan Under-19 Men’s Cricket Team in recognition of their outstanding international performance. The Chair highlighted that such recognition not only acknowledges sporting excellence but also encourages young talent representing Pakistan on global platforms.
Additionally, the ECC approved a Technical Supplementary Grant for the Defence Division for the procurement of bullet-proof vehicles, noting the operational imperatives and security requirements underpinning the proposal.
