Islamabad: Federal cabinet has approved the draft of 27th constitutional amendment.
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif presided over federal cabinet meeting through a video link from Baku.
The bill will be presented in Senate after consultation with allied parties.
Federal cabinet accorded yes nod to 27th constitutional amendment on Saturday.
Talking to media men law minister Azam Nazir Tarar said detailed briefing on 27th constitutional amendment bill was given in the cabinet meeting. The cabinet gave approval to table 27th constitutional amendment bill in Senate.
It will be recommended to send the bill to joint committee of parliament. Members of law and justice committee of Senate and National Assembly (NA) will be included in the committee.
Senator Farooq H Naik will be chairman of this committee while Mehmood Bashir will be its co-chairman.
PM Shehbaz Sharif has made consultations with all allied parties separately. Consensus was forged with PPP, MQM, PML-Q, BAP, ANP, National Party and Ijaz ul Haq on constitutional reforms.
We are determined to implement the decision of establishment of constitutional court under charter of democracy. The proposal for establishment of federal constitutional court is included in 27th constitutional amendment.
The proposal is there to delegate the power of transfer of judges to Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
Proposal has been given to remove the legal lacunas in the perspective of delay in Senate elections in KP. The delayed period will be deemed to have been included in the tenure of senators.
Proposal is there to hold Senate elections at a time in all over the country. Transparency in the election of chairman and deputy chairman senate will be ensured. It is proposed to increase the threshold of cabinet from 11 percent to 13 percent in consultation with the small provinces. It is also suggested that number of non elected advisors be increased from 5 to 7.
Amendments have been proposed regarding defence matters in article 223. Several lessons were learnt during the recent Indo-Pak escalation. It is proposed to make mention of honorary title of Field Marshal , Naval Chief and Air Chief in the constitution.
