Islamabad: The Anti-Corruption Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Headquarters on Tuesday successfully organized a debate competition at the FIA-INTERPOL Global Academy, Islamabad, marking the first-ever inter-university debate competition in the history of the FIA Academy.

Director General FIA, Mr. Riffat Mukhtar Raja, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The competition featured teams comprising trainee inspectors from the FIA Academy and students from leading academic institutions, including Air University Islamabad, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), and the National University of Modern Languages (NUML).

Participants debated contemporary themes related to governance and accountability, including 'Strengthening investigative capacity matters more than harsher anti-corruption laws' and 'Corruption is a cultural issue rather than a legal one.'

In the first debate, Air University Islamabad secured first position, while the FIA Academy team emerged as runner-up. In the second debate, the NUST team (Opposition) won the contest, with NUML University (Proposition) securing second position.

The panel of judges comprised Mr. Mubashir Hassan, Principal Information Officer at the Press Information Department (PID), and Ms. Hifsa Ashraf, an educationist, internationally recognized Haiku poet, and motivational trainer.

Addressing the participants, DG FIA Mr. Riffat Mukhtar Raja encouraged them to 'Debate, Reflect, and Reform,' underscoring the importance of intellectual engagement and critical discourse in addressing national challenges. He highlighted the role of such academic activities in shaping informed perspectives among future investigators and policymakers.

The event aimed to promote critical thinking, policy dialogue, and professional competence, reflecting FIA's commitment to capacity building, intellectual development, and fostering a culture of informed debate on key national issues.
